Tea Atlas

How to use the Tea Atlas

Explore tea regions around the world, learn what each place is known for, and save or export what you find.

1) Find places
  • Search: type a tea, country, region, or note (e.g., “sencha”, “floral”).
  • Type filter: All, Green, Black, Oolong, White, Pu-erh, Herbal.
  • Country & Region: choose a country to narrow results; Region updates based on the country.
  • Reset: clears all filters.
2) Read the map
  • Clusters: numbered circles group nearby markers. Click a circle to zoom in and expand it.
  • Marker colors (by tea type): Green = Green • Dark slate = Black • Purple = Oolong • Light gray = White • Brown = Pu-erh • Orange = Herbal.
  • Pan & zoom: drag to move, use + / − to zoom.
3) Open a region

Click a marker to see a popup with: overview, flavor notes, brewing tips, and a link to learn more.

4) Compare regions
  1. In a popup, click + Compare to add a region.
  2. Use the tray above the map to add up to 3 regions.
  3. Click Compare to see them side by side. Use Clear to start over.
5) Brew timer

Each popup has a timer with a sensible default for the tea type. Adjust minutes/seconds, then Start.

  • Typical defaults: Green ~ 2:00 • Black ~ 3:30 • Oolong/White ~ 2:30 • Pu-erh ~ 1:30 • Herbal ~ 5:00.
6) Share, save, and export
  • Share View: copies a link to the current view (keeps your search and type filter).
  • Export CSV: downloads the currently filtered list as a spreadsheet.
  • Export GeoJSON: downloads the same set for use in map/GIS tools.
Troubleshooting
  • No results? Click Reset, then try a broader search or “All types”.
  • Can’t open a marker? Zoom in on clusters and try again.
  • Mobile tips: pinch to zoom; tap clusters to expand; scroll the popup if it’s taller than the screen.
